Director Identification Number
Recently the government announced that all directors of companies are required by law to have a Director Identification number.
A Director identification number (Director ID OR DIN) is a 15-digit identifier unique to you, that you will keep forever. It will help to prevent the use of false or fraudulent director identities.
When you must apply for a director ID depends on the date you were appointed a director.
- Existing directors have until 30 November 2022 to apply.
- Directors appointed between 1 November 2021 and 4 April 2022 must apply within 28 days of their appointment.
- From 5 April 2022, intending directors must apply before being appointed.
As a requirement of this set up, you need to verify your identity with the Australian Business registry service and the quickest and
fastest way to complete is online by setting up a MyGov ID (not MyGov) and completing the application form.
This is something you need to complete yourself as you need to upload identity documentation. This is a free service.
